MotoGP Will Implement Tire Pressure Regulations at the British Grand Prix - The most prestigious motorcycle racing event, namely MotoGP, will apply new regulations after the summer holidays at the British Grand Prix. This new regulation will regulate air pressure on motorcycle tires.
Quoted from Motorsport, the MotoGP motorbike tire pressure regulation actually applies at the start of the 2023 season. However, due to difficulties with the mechanism, the implementation of the regulations was postponed and started to be implemented at Silverstone in the future.
This rule will determine the minimum pressure limit on the front or rear tires. The minimum limit for the front tires was set at 1.9 bar or 27.6 psi, while the minimum limit for the rear tires was 1.7 bar or 24.7 psi.
The FIM management has confirmed that this mechanism will be applied to Sprint Races and Special Races.
On a note, MotoGP says technical violations will result in disqualification from the session or race. However, because this mechanism is still relatively new, there are threats that are subject to it in stages.
Cal Crutchlow Comes Back at the Japanese MotoGP, becomes a Yamaha Wildcard If the racing team does not follow the existing regulations, then the penalty will be determined as follows:
- First offense: Warning
- 2nd vio-lation : Penalty 3 seconds
- 3rd vio-lation : Penalty 6 seconds
- Fourth offense: 12 second penalty
After each racing team has been trained with the mechanism, the FIM will apply standard threats for technical violations of tire hardness. The standard threat applied is in the form of disqualification.
Now Michelin has put in place a new tire hardness monitoring mechanism to ensure all drivers comply with the regulations. While tire hardness is a Sensitive Valuee and the reading fluctuates greatly throughout the race.
Aerodynamics Getting More Difficult, MotoGP 2025 Uses Bigger Front Tires Even at certain points on the track the hardness of the tires can be different from before the race started.
To apply this rule, the sensors of each racing team will be checked before and after the race to make sure the tire hardness is correct. Initially each team used its own sensor from a different supplier to check the hardness of the tires.
As additional info, in 2022 all manufacturers have agreed to provide tire data freely after the race to improve the hardness regulations for this tire. This mechanism will then be tested in the first half of 2023 to verify and make sure it is reliable.
This mechanism is currently ready to be applied and will begin in the British MotoGP and currently only for specific classes.
